The Process:

Introductory Zoom
30 minutes

In this introductory Zoom, we will discuss your child, what support you think your child needs, what exams they are preparing for and any feedback you have had from your child's school, which might be useful.  We will also talk about whether you wish your child to be undertaking homework tasks and what your child is reading.

Initial Sessions

Initially, my focus will be to build a positive relationship with your child, while pinpointing where their strengths lie and what areas need support.  Building trust and confidence is an integral part of this diagnostic process.

The Programme

Once I have ascertained what skills need to be developed, I will formulate a programme for your child.  This programme may change, depending on our progress.   My planning takes place weekly and I will assess your child on an ongoing basis, both during the lesson and as part of any homework being set.  Additionally, there will be a monthly feedback communication with you explaining progress, areas for future focus and any concerns.

TESTIMONIALS:

'I cannot recommend Morar highly enough.  My son Oliver started weekly English tutoring with Morar at the start of Year 11.  The progress he made and the transformation in his confidence after working with Morar was fantastic.
Morar helped Oliver achieve 2 grades higher than his predicted grade in English Language
.  Morar is patient and utterly committed to getting the very best out of her pupils.  We are so grateful to Morar for her time and hard work and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her to others.' - Kate Spark (parent) - 2003

'With not a great start to our Higher English journey, we asked for help and

Morar came to our rescue, with understanding, encouragement and a supportive manner, she assisted Jess to complete her journey with great success. She taught Jess that IT IS possible!'   2024

'My 15-year-old got a worryingly low English Literature GCSE mock result, so we were keen for Morar to help.  She quickly identified where he was struggling and gave him really good support.  I was impressed with her preparation before the sessions, how she included my son in the planning so he could see the value and how she fed back to me after each one.  I'm happy to say that after only 6 sessions, he went from a nearly fail to a good grade in his English Literature.'  Mrs B. (parent)

" Morar has helped me so much in English, I went from 60% to 89% in my final exams in Year 7.  She also helped me with topics I didn't quite understand in school and explained them amazingly.' SLF (Y8 student)

'Took me from a 4 to a 6!' - (A very succinct Y11 student!)

Weekly Book Review

An utterly magical book

The Ocean at the end of the Lane

Neil Gaiman

Another winner!  A poignant and lyrical book about childhood, dark forces, old magic and memories.  It reminded me a little of 'Carrie's War'.  I loved, loved, loved it and so did my 11 year old!

Reading

Research by The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development  (OECD) demonstrates that 'reading for pleasure is the single biggest factor in how well a child does in life.'.  Additionally, the research demonstrates that children who read regularly (outside school) can improve their examination results by up to two grades and that children who read for pleasure report higher levels of well being.

An integral part of my tutoring process is to inspire my students to read more and to guide them to read widely across different literary and non-literary genres.  I read avidly and am passionate about keeping the reading habit going in young people.  As part of the tutoring service, I will recommend fiction and non-fiction titles to my students as well as providing general and individualised book lists.
